Endings are everywhere right now.

This past fortnight, I (Ben) have moved through many; the completion of my master’s degree, the close of a group process I co-facilitated, the final moments of a retreat, and the end of the calendar year itself.

Each one held an invitation: Be here for this.

In this week’s article, I reflect on the power of endings and what happens when we actually give them our presence. Because when we do, connection deepens. Gratitude lands. Something gets to settle.

And when we don’t? We carry the emotional residue forward, waiting to be released elsewhere, often in unconscious and unhealthy ways.

However you do endings, this is a gentle nudge to pause, to honour, and to name what mattered.

What's happening with Melis

Reading: ​
I’m still reading “Coming Back to Life” by Joanna Macy. Her work is inspiring and grounded and bold. It feels like a beautiful example of a quiet legacy.

Listening to:
​A lot of Nigerian artist Burna Boy, trying to bring a little more movement practice into my days. I’m noticing my energy is bouncing along the bottom as I slide into the end of a very challenging year.

Doing:
​Just got back from trauma training with Manuela Mischke-Reeds and feel in love with her view of what trauma is and how to heal it through our innate somatic intelligence. DELICIOUS!

Pondering:
​I’m pondering my future and how I want to spend the energy packet that is the third act. :-)

What's happening with Ben

Watching: ​
I watch a lot of health and exercise videos. I've recently come across a guy named Mike R. Holland. He teaches a morning movement series that is a smoosh of ancient Taoist techniques with Indian Pranayama practices, and a bit of Russian physiology science. The result is movement with purpose. I love it!

Listening to:
​The obligatory Christmas tunes for this time of year. I've always been partial to Ultra Lounge: Christmas Cocktails.​

Doing:
​Slowing down. It's been a B.I.G. year! Body. Needs. Rest.

​Pondering:
​The power of endings (see this week's article). I'm always asking myself how I can be more present in potent moments, specifically the transition into and out of them. This time of year makes them more prominent for me.
